A TRIBUTE TO THE PROPHET JOSEPH SMITH

In a time when most ministers felt lucky to attract a following of 100-200 members, historical records indicate that 45,000 to 50,000 people followed Joseph Smith and joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints during his lifetime. How did this happen? Long before radio, television and the internet ministers and preachers had only their charisma and ability to gather and hold a crowd to build their ministries. Joseph Smith had more--his was an undertaking commissioned by God Himself! God, angels, and hundreds of good men and women helped Joseph do something in the 1800's that no minister of any faith could ever accomplish alone! This final dispensation was a glorious explosion of righteous converts who gathered to Zion and followed a young prophet in faith.

This database of 17,000 names was compiled to honor Joseph Smith. While not a complete listing of baptisms (we know there were many converts who joined the church in Europe and other countries who are not listed here, as well as many in America who's information has not been found), it is a significant first effort. It is hoped that the information here may be of  some value, and that it may inspire additional research.
